Weekly Winners (Feb. 21 – 27)

Hey, guess what! MORE SNOW! Only this time in Central Texas, where its not snowed this much since 1982. To top it off, on each end of this week featured days with highs in the upper-60s/lower-70s. CRAZY!!!

This tree grows across the street from my parents house. On Sunday, its large branches against the beautiful sunset struck me as something I had to document.

Cold and hungry.

Will you swing with me?

Even though it snowed all day long, it stayed just above freezing for most of the day. Snow collected on the rooftops, even as it dripped down the edges like rain.

My parents dog stared out at the snow much of the day in an almost state of confusion. What is this stuff coming from the sky? And why?

Let them eat cake! The snow outside compelled me to make a cake. So I baked this chocolate cake, and served it up with powdered sugar, whipped cream and sprinkles. Why do it half-way?? Go all out!

Reaching 50 degrees the next day, the snow quickly melted in the sunshine.

I was driving late at night from a friends house when I saw this huge Texas flag being whipped in the wind. I HAD to pull over to get a photo.

I began with a sunset; I end with a sunset. Upper 60s and sunshine. The sunset was stunning, and it seemed the perfect ending for the week.

  1. I like ice, it’s always so nice to photograph – as long as you’re all bundled up and warm. Am purposely not looking at the cake, I want chocolate cake so badly, but my daughter has coeliacs, so I no longer have a 5 minute chocolate cake recipe. I should probably work on that.

    1. Thank you! Yes, the sunshine has been a nice change. It only stays around maybe two days at a time before it gets all grey again. But I’ll take what I can get!

  2. These are terrific. My favorite is the tree by your mom and dad’s house, but each shot is a winner. Boy, the animals must really be thrown for a loop when this happens. Here’s hoping everyone recovers well :)

    1. They were definitely confused! Heck, I was confused! I grew up here and I had never seen it like that before. It was amazing.

      Thanks so much!!

  3. wow, what a great eye you have. and awesome that you do stop to pull over to get a shots when you see them. (wishing i was better about that.) i love the top sunset and the flag shot and now i really, really want some sprinkles.

    1. Its hard to convince someone else to stop to take pictures which will just frustrate me to no end. But when I am driving… I will totally stop. Its fun!!

Thanks so much! And I send you sprinkles!
