Clean house, clear mind

One of my favorite things to do when my husband goes on the road is clean the house.

I started doing it when we first got married as a nice surprise for him. I wanted him to always come home to a clean home after a run. Clean house, fresh sheets on the bed, etc. It was one of my ways of saying, “I love you.”

Later, I started doing it more as a way of getting exercise. I’d clean house and push  myself harder and harder. Clean better and faster. It was my version of going for a run. Drink water and break a sweat!

Today, I do it for both of those reasons, but also because it just makes me feel good. It lets me clear my mind of anything that might be weighing on it. If I get mad, I scrub out my anger. If I am sad, cleaning gives me this natural boost. If I am happy… well, I am inclined to turn on music and dance as I clean.

As I finish, I love to look around and see a job well done. And nothing sleeps as fabulously as fresh sheets on the bed! In fact, I can’t wait to crawl into bed myself and just roll around in the fresh goodness.

I cleaned my house today, while my husband was enjoying a day in Florida. He’ll come home to a super clean house, and a happy wife. Because I clean to say “I love you” not just to him… but to myself as well.
