#DrinkUpLinkUp — Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Wine

I’ve missed out on #DrinkUpLinkUp the last few weeks due to just not getting to drink much. Three weeks on antibiotics will do that to you. Then once I could drink again, I didn’t have much opportunity to drink anything new. But that finally changed last week.

I had:

 Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Wine

Yup. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend wine from Miranda Lambert. Well, rather, Red 55 Winery.

Some friends had Miranda Lambert wine awhile back and immediately I went, “HOWDOIGETTHATIMUSTHAVEITRIGHTNOW!”

Well, that was an issue living in Tennessee, when it can only be bought in Texas. Bummer! But, while at a liquor store in my little home town… there it was. And there it went to the register to go home with me.

There are 7 varieties of Red 55 wines, and I opted to start with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

The description from their website:

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Sweet White Table Wine

An alluring radiant wine bears overtones of ripe pears, honey, and golden raisins. Lusciously aromatic it is perfect for those who prefer the sweeter things in life. It is so deliciously perfumed, it has been teased as dessert in a bottle! Just like a Crazy Ex, you’ll be seduced over and over by this charmer. So mild it can be served with fruit, light cheeses, sorbets and other light desserts, it is also delightful with Sunday brunch on the patio, fruit-glazed chicken dishes and spicy Asian cuisines. Serve chilled.

A friend told me it wasn’t her favorite, so I’ll be curious to try the other wines… because I actually REALLY liked this wine. Like. A lot. As in went-to-bed-very-buzzed-on-it like.

DEFINITELY a dessert in a bottle. A very sweet wine, its flavor lingers on the palate long after you’ve finished drinking it. I happened to actually have it with cheese the night I drank it, and it paired amazingly.

So, if you ever find yourself in Texas and wanting a different wine to try… give this one a shot. Dessert in a bottle? As Miranda would probably say, “Hell yeah!”

#DrinkUpLinkUp — Sweet Magnolia Brown Ale

I am generally a wheat beer girl. My husband is a dark beer guy. However, we both mix it up occasionally and drift over to what the other likes. Last night, I went to the dark side.

075: Magnolia Brown AleWe went to eat at Big River Grille & Brewing Works in downtown Nashville last night. A friend works there, and we like to pop in and support her when we can. Plus, its a brewery… double points!

Big River has four locations — two in Chattanooga, TN, one in Nashville, TN, and one in Lake Buena Vista, FL. The Nashville location has six beers on top at all time, with a seasonal that rotates out with the… well… season. (Duh.)

Last night, we had their Sweet Magnolia Brown Ale. From the restaurant’s website:

“Award Winning”
Sweet Magnolia American Brown Ale

British Crystal and Chocolate malts give this ale a medium body and rich, sweet aroma. Mount Hood hops add a spicy and floral nose. This smooth, malty brew was a Gold Medal winner in the American Brown Ale category at the 1998 Great American Beer Festival.

Original gravity: 12.5° Plato
Alcohol by volume: 5.2%
Bitterness Units: 24

I liked it! It was a bit hoppier than I like in general, but somehow the malts helped off-set that to the point I didn’t mind. It was a smooth beer that went well with dinner. (And definitely worked for this not-usually-a-dark-beer-girl.)
