Texas

Texas
I was born and raised in Central Texas. I say that I will ALWAYS be a Texan, no matter where I live, because being a Texan is more like a frame of mind. There are all sorts of Texans, but there is one thing we all hold true: a pride and love of state. Some call it arrogance. I call it just being proud of where you come from and holding true to those roots that helped to make you the person you are today. All of my family lives in Texas, and it will forever be “home” for me.
Cameron Yoeman
I was fortunate to attend K – 12 in one school district: Cameron ISD. I am a Cameron Yoeman through and through. And like every other small town in Texas, we lived and breathed high school football.
While in high school, I was active in everything I could handle. A few of the organizations:
- National Honor Society
- Band
- Colorguard (Captain my Senior Year)
- Yearbook
- Newspaper (Editor)
- Christian Club
- Future Teachers Association (President for 3 years)
- Future Homemakers Association
- University Interscholastic League (Competing in Journalism. Earned 2nd in State in Headline Writing my Freshman year.)
As with all teens, high school was an important time in my life. Primarily, it taught me to balance multiple activites, and it gave me an insite into being a good leader.
Texas A&M University – College Station, Texas
I was one of those students who applied to only ONE University. I was also fortunate to get into my ONE school choice. Since I was a baby, I breathed Texas A&M. My blood definitely runs maroon.
I graduated with my BS in Journalism in 2003. Due to living off campus (and commuting an hour one way every day), I was not as active in organizations as I would have liked to have been. However, I did spend a year writing for the school newspaper, The Battalion, in the Aggielife section.
College days were without a doubt the years of the most “life lessons.” I graduated (shaking now Secretary Gate’s hand!) with a lot more life lessons than I could ever begin to list here. I have a place for Aggieland in my heart, and every time I go to visit my family in Texas, I feel the tug to visit College Station.
Since moving to Nashville, I have become very active in the Middle Tennessee Texas A&M Club. I am actually more active with Texas A&M today than I was as a student. And I absolutely love it.
I am proud to be an Aggie. I am proud to be a Texan. Both are huge parts of who I am, and they’re also both something I will NEVER deny.
