Hot dog!

October 14th, 2011 5 comments

I’ve been MIA this week due to a full work schedule at night. I’m filling in for a friend on vacation this week in the hot dog stand at the bar where I also bartend. I’ve never done this many  nights in a row down at the bar, and its equal parts exhilarating and exhausting. More the later, though, when you try to cram a full day in before a full night of work. (Add in that I am on antibiotics and you get one tired gal here!) But the extra money coming in is nice, and it feels good to help a friend.

Something has had to give, though, and unfortunately its been my writing. And until I can remedy that completely, I ask you this:

What do you like on YOUR hot dog?

351: Hot dog

Chili cheese dog with mustard

Wedding gifts

May 28th, 2011 4 comments

205: His & HersAs I’ve mentioned, I have a lot of weddings this year, and with weddings come wedding gifts.

Its funny the things I can tell you with complete clarity who gave us what as a wedding gift. Similarly, I have things I can tell you were a wedding gift, but darn if I can tell you who it was was from! I have gifts that stand out as favorites. I have gifts that are still in the box, four years later.

So as I am contemplating what to get for each wedding and/or shower, I find myself thinking back to my wedding registry and the gifts I received. There were registry items I am still bummed we didn’t get. There are non-registry items I use every day and am soooo grateful to have.

I want to give something useful and meaningful at the same time. So, I ask you, my dear readers, what were some of your favorite wedding gifts — either to receive or to give? Please! Give me some ideas!!

Jury summons

March 1st, 2011 4 comments

I got a jury duty summons.

And I laughed at it.

Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not against doing my civic duty and all that jazz. (Even though its not really high on my list of “things to do.”)  It’s because it came to my parent’s house.

In my hometown.

Where I do not live.

Oh I am here working, sure. But home is Nashville, TN. I have the driver’s license, voters registration, and even Social Security statements to prove it! Vehicle registration, too. Tax return. Legal documents. Insurance documents. Everything! Heck, I can’t even go to the doctor here and expect insurance to do much of anything, because I DO NOT live here.

And I haven’t lived here for four and a half years!

On top of it, they sent it to me with my maiden name on it. Which I changed over four years ago as well!

Needless to say, we all got a good laugh from this court mix-up, and I filled out the card explaining I don’t live here and that they even had my name wrong. I dropped it back in the mail to the court clerk; I’m pretty sure I’m safely exempt from it. Heck, chances are I’ll not even be here working on the date of the summons… they’d literally have to fly to Tennessee to find me. At home in my bed. With my husband and cat.

However, it was also rather disconcerting. I know I’m from a small town and all that, but you’d think after four years the system would have caught up to them. Literally, the only thing that was still coming here for me under my maiden name was a couple credit card statements… and those are currently in the process of being discharged.

I wonder if they ever send out jury summons to people who have passed away? How do you arrest someone for not appearing at court because they are dead?

Anyway,  mistakes happen and I got a good laugh from it. But it did make me question what kind of database they use for juror selection, and why is it so far out of date? Anything like this ever happen to anyone else?

Nonsensical things

August 18th, 2010 5 comments

We all have those things we do that make no sense, and yet we do them any way. Its as if in certain instances, logic no longer has any effect on us.

Today, I did a big one. I even twittered about it AS I WAS DOING IT.

Why am I sitting on my bed, checking the internet on my phone when my laptop is a foot away? — @niseag03

Yes folks, I spent over an hour reading BlogHer and my email and my Facebook and my Twitter feed ON MY PHONE, cursing how cumbersome it is to Share an article on Facebook via phone, all while my laptop sat open less than a foot away. Can someone explain to me what part of any of this made any sense?

One of my quirks that my husband finds particularly entertaining is the fact that I rarely will change the toilet paper roll. Its such a simple chore! And yet for whatever reason, I hate it and just don’t do it. He teased me that while he’s on the road, I HAVE to change the roll. Unbeknown to him (until now, ha!) I still very rarely change it. If I’m feeling particularly logical, I will. But on a general basis… not so much.

And yes, I did go take a picture of this phenomenon to use as a photo in this post.

In a similar vein, the bad habit I have that gets on my husband’s nerves is how, when cooking, I’ll toss all my trash in one of the sinks instead of putting it in the trash can. The difference in distance is maybe two steps, and yet I consistently do it. Even though I know it gets on his nerves! Its a bad habit. It makes no sense. I am guilty.

So please tell me its not just me! What are some of your more nonsensical moments?
