Mind. Blown.

366: Happy BirthdayToday is my birthday. I had two wishes:

1. To feel good. I’ve been battling allergies that developed into a cold all week. My couch has been my favorite location in general. Getting out of the house was always welcome, but by the time we were heading home from just eating out, I was in pure misery. I wished for my PJs and couch.

2. For my Aggies to win. It was a stretch. Battling #1 Alabama. Everyone kept saying we had a good chance for a win, but I dared not get my hopes up too high.

What happened? I GOT BOTH MY WISHES!!

I woke up today feeling GOOD. I’m still a little congested, but I no longer have that crappy, icky feeling. I feel… well… GOOD. I got dressed up a wedding we were attending, and my only rough part was near the end of the ceremony when I desperately wanted to go blow my  nose.

After the wedding, we joined up with the rest of my local Aggies to watch the game. We got there at half time.

I think I aged more than a year in this day. I was literally shaking from head to toe through the last quarter. SHAKING. I wanted this win so bad, but it was still too much time left. As it ended, I was just numb. We did it. WE WON.

Then my Aggies sang Happy Birthday to me. And I am pretty sure I was beaming.

My husband and I are headed downtown to go out for awhile soon. Head over to the bar where I work (but took the night off) to celebrate. 32. I am 32. Whew. I gotta admit, I always thought my 30s would be the best decade and I can honestly say, so far so good! Looking forward to the year to come!!

Santa letter

038: Dear SantaDear Santa,

Tomorrow your big night arrives. Hope you are ready!!

Sorry to be writing so late. That seems to be a trend for me this season. My Christmas Cards will go out days after Christmas, too. So I guess I’m doing good to write this before the big day at all!

I have so much to be thankful for this year. It’s been a wonderful rebuilding and healing year for us. We are entering 2012 with a confidence we haven’t had in a few years. I am excited to see where this year takes us… I am so very optimistic!

So I write to you with a heart full of hope and the belief that the magic of Christmas will continue to hold true. That it will be as amazing as it ever has been!

Christmas isn’t just for little kids. They, of course, have a far more innocent view of it. I miss that innocence, that feeling the big day will just never get here. These days, the holidays sneak up on me and I’m left lamenting how I am not ready! How I need more time to prepare, to get into the spirit of the season.

Luckily, despite being amazed Christmas is already here, I am sufficiently into the spirit of the season. I’m ready for lots of food, gifts, carols, laughter, and the birth of baby Jesus.

If you have a little room in your sleigh, could you hook me up with some more camera gear? Lenses, flashes, etc. I want it all! And some jeans? Maybe some cute sweaters and new boots? Could you throw a receptor in for my husband? He’s been wanting one for years now. If you can’t do the camera gear and receptor, could you slip some plane tickets to Oregon for us for February? Or just some money towards it? It’s been three years since we got to visit friends and family up there. We are long over due for it. I’d love a few new CDs or just an iTunes giftcard. Finally, we are due some new phones. In fact, we can upgrade our phones next week, but if you wanted to throw a couple iPhones in your bag for us… I wouldn’t complain one bit.

You know what, though? If you just take good care of my niece and nephew, I’ll be happy. Spoil them tomorrow night. We’ll figure out the rest.

Safe travels, Santa. I’ll be going to midnight mass, and I’ll look for you in the skies on my way home afterwards.

An early birthday present

November 5th, 2010 8 comments

It's an old photo of me with my parents, but one of my favorites ever.

I’m getting an early birthday present. It arrives tomorrow.

And I’m so stinkin’ excited!

My parents are driving up to see us. And they will be here for my birthday next week.

I’ve gotten to do a lot of fun and exciting things lately. The perks of being married to a musician for sure. However, I have to say, none of those things had me as excited as I am right now for my parents to arrive and be here for my birthday. The funny thing is that I didn’t know how excited I was about it until it almost didn’t happen! Its one of those things where you don’t realize what you have until you’ve lost it. Thankfully, though, everything has worked out and they’ll be on their way sometime tomorrow.

I’ve mentioned it before, and I apologize if I harp on it a little too much, but finances have me stressed — and flat out scared — much of the time these days. My birthday wish all year has been for a new camera for my birthday. A real high tech one to take my photography to the next level. To give me some credibility and maybe finally help me make some money doing it.

However, lack of funds won’t let that happen, and its also  made me realize how important our relationships are as opposed to our possessions. They are our true constants in life. As such, the thought of my parents being here for my birthday gets me more excited than ever. I realize this present that I AM getting is way more important. It means way  more and will do more for my heart and soul than a camera could possibly do.

How lucky am I? I’ll be surrounded by my parents and my husband on my birthday!!

The only thing that could make it better would be to bring my brother and his family along with all my best girlfriends in Texas along with them. Oh and an Aggie win would rock, too. But, hey, I’m not greedy. hehe

Anyway, say a prayer for safe travels for my parents as they travel tomorrow. This is definitely the best early birthday present ever.
